The Department of Sport, Leisure & Childhood Studies (Bishopstown Campus, Cork) offers a suite of programmes in the broad Health-Exercise-Sport Science (HEX-SPO) domain.
Our undergraduate suite of programmes comprises the
(i) BSc (Hons) in Coaching Science & Sports Pedagogy,
(ii) BBus (Hons) in Sport & Exercise Management,
and (iii) BBus in Recreation & Leisure Management (Level 7).
In addition, our Taught Postgraduate Programmes comprise the
(iv) MSc (PT) in Health & Wellbeing and the
(v) MSc in Skill Acquisition for Sport.
Since its inception, an ongoing objective of the SLCS Department has been to embed an inherent research culture within all academic activities; from undergraduate level through
to postgraduate study options at both Level 9 and 10 in the domains of ‘Health, Exercise & Sport’.

HEX-SPO Research Group
A further development in the Research Strategy within the SLCS Dept. @MTU has been
the formal recognition of departmental research activities under the remit of a designated
research group in sport, exercise and health, ‘HEX-SPO’, where we currently have 23 PhD
and MSc students breaking new ground in HEX-SPO thematic domains such as Coaching
Science, Sports Pedagogy, Skill Acquisition, Physical Activity & Nutrition, and Health
Promotion.
