ISESA Conference Only a Month Away

The conference starts at 9.45am on Thursday, 22 May with Dr Diane Cooper, founder and CEO of EduFit, the first keynote speaker of the conference.

The ISESA was established in 2023 with support from Sport Ireland and Sport Ireland Institute and is the representative body for the sport and exercise sciences community in Ireland.

It is an all-island, not-for-profit organisation and is also an associate member of the International Confederation of Sport and Exercise Sciences Practice.

Chair of the ISESA, Prof. Tom Comyns gave an overview of the road to now for the organisation.

"The last few years have been extremely busy and exciting for us as a Board and as a new representative body for sport and exercise sciences academics, researchers and practitioners in Ireland.

"Up until the ISESA's establishment, there was no representative and accrediting body for the sport and exercise sciences community in Ireland.

"When you look at the developments in exercise science and in sport science and the use of sport science within sporting bodies and teams and in the preparation of athletes, it was appropriate and timely that our community has its’ own voice.

"Getting established and providing the framework to benefit our members in Ireland was the first pillar of our work, but over the last 12 months it's been about adding more and more layers to our offering to better lead, inform and represent our community, and a lot of that has been building towards the conference next month."

Dr Adam Grainger, the Chair of the Conference Committee, also looked ahead to the two-day event in SETU Waterford.

"The ISESA events and conference committee, has facilitated an excellent two days in SETU Waterford and we are also very grateful to the team on campus for their help hosting the event.

"It's difficult to highlight one speaker or presentation over another, but I think we are all looking forward to the line-up and also the post-graduate presentations.

"It promises to be a great two days and hopefully, the first of many such conferences for the ISESA and our members for years to come."

Those interested in attending the conference can book their place at www.isesa.ie while a full programme of events and speakers can also be found on the ISESA homepage.
